March 13, 2012: A Message of Hope - Public Schools Looking Forward

The Hourglass, in partnership with Millersville University’s School of Education present an important forum on the future of education.

A Message of Hope

Creating Hope for Schools in Crisis
The economic outlook for schools is bleak.  Revenues are falling while expenses are rising.  Consider the evidence – dropout rates are high, especially in disadvantaged areas; US students rank poorly worldwide, and graduates searching for employment too often lack the skills needed to land good jobs.  Cutting costs by closing schools, eliminating programs, and furloughing teachers is not the long-term answer.

There is great hope for the future if we reinvent our schools – learn to do more with less by finding new, innovative solutions that use emerging technologies and fresh practices to change the way we teach our students and operate our schools.  We brought together national, state and local thought leaders in educational innovation to share their insights on how we might do it.
